Dear Bucyrian friends,

I will not be running for re-election in 2023. When I was nominated to fill the remaining eighteen months of Mayor Roger Moore’s term, I promised the Republican Party that I would complete Roger’s term and stand would run for two terms. When I complete my current term at the end of 2023, I will have become one of the longest-serving mayors in Bucyrus’ 200-year history. Time passed very quickly. Our citizens have shown great confidence in our administration and that is because we have a top notch team in place – a team that cares deeply about serving as well as planning for a bright future. My success as your mayor is due to the people who lead each department as well as our exceptional staff.

Bucyrus competes every day to attract new businesses and residents and it is imperative that we continue to improve our quality of life to make our city as attractive as possible. That is why we have focused on the appearance of our streets and neighborhoods, but especially on our municipal parks. My objective during the last fourteen months of the mandate is to work with the municipal council to ensure the sustainability of our municipal services. Additional revenue will be needed to maintain the same level of quality that our security forces and street team provide. City parks operate on a shoestring budget and that must change if we are to attract young families to Bucyrus. I provided City Council with options to improve our financial outlook and Auditor Schifer and I asked them to make a decision on their plan by the end of this year. Difficult decisions must be made for the future success of our community.

My wife Gayle and I are grateful for the support we have received and have been honored to lead our hometown, one of Ohio’s first small towns. Our administration has worked diligently and will continue to work to make it even better. May God continue to bless Bucyrus.
