Ka Vang joins Meet Minneapolis as Vice President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

I am passionate about developing targeted social justice initiatives and of racial reconciliation for Meet Minneapolis that will help rebuild and restore hospitality industry workers, local businesses and the community as a whole.”
Vang was selected for the role following a search that included local and national candidates. While she will be the first person to hold the title of Vice President of EDI within the organization, Meet Minneapolis has long been committed to recruiting and retaining a staff that reflects its local community, as well as the increasingly diverse visitors that Meet Minneapolis strives to attract.
“Hiring Ka allows us to better organize the EDI work we have done as a business imperative,” Tennant added. “Based on her extensive experience, she will be able to adapt easily to the travel and tourism industry by evaluating the EDI work we have done, determining short and long term goals and developing appropriate measures for success and internal training initiative.”
Prior to joining Meet Minneapolis, Vang spent eight years as Director of Impact and Community Engagement for Minnesota Public Radio and US Public Media. Vang’s career at MPR and APM included sustained efforts to implement the company’s strategic community impact plan with a particular focus on equity, culture and new ways to serve diverse audiences. Prior to that, she worked as the Director of the Diversity Program for state of minnesota, System desktop. Vang also served as Deputy Director of the Center for Multicultural and International Student Affairs at Hamline University, and spent several years as a diversity, inclusion and equity trainer for non-profit and public organizations. Additionally, Vang is a certified Intercultural Development Inventory Facilitator and Trainer.
Vang graduated from University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She received her Masters in Education from Minnesota State, Mankato. She previously served on the board of Girl Scouts River Valleys and Friends of Freedom Park. She is currently a member of the task force of We Are Still Here Minnesota, a non-profit organization whose mission is to highlight and make visible the lives and contributions of Native American peoples and their governments in Minnesota.
