How to use MTN MoMo in Uganda: payments, loans, etc.

MTN MoMo Uganda, enables businesses to accept payment for their products and services. Consumers and business owners can use it by dialing *165*3#. Using MoMoPay, stores can sell airtime to customers, pay for supplies and employee salaries, and make bank transfers.

Benefits of using MoMo

  • The service is offered at no cost to the customer.
  • It’s safer than carrying cash.
  • There will be no problem with insufficient funds due to exact change.
  • Commissions from selling customer airtime or processing customer payments are an additional source of revenue for merchants.
  • Consumers and business owners can use their bank accounts to make deposits and withdrawals.
  • Customers can use MoMoPay at no cost to them.
  • Merchants operating in the formal economy will be charged a 2% fee on all payments.
  • A 1% fee will be applied on all payments made to unofficial businesses.

How to Pay Tuition with MTN MoMo Uganda

MTN MoMo Uganda is an easy and safe way to pay tuition fees.​​

For Primary – University and Flexi Pay, follow these steps

  • The first thing you need to do is dial *165*4# and select option three > Tuition, or you can just dial *165*4*3#
  • Then choose Primary-University if your institution is a registered user or Flexi Pay if you are a Stanbic Bank customer.
  • Before choosing an option above, check that your institution accepts payments made by this method, so that you do not make multiple payments.
  • In the third step, select the option to pay the associated fees.
  • Fourth, use the registration code issued by the school to register for classes.
  • Then the name of your school will appear.
  • Type the student’s name for a unique ID.
  • Type the amount you want to pay.
  • Payment confirmation comes last. After confirming the payment, you can present the message to the school for verification.

For Bridge International and Magezi Harvest Support School Pay, follow these steps:

  • Dial *165*4*3# or dial *165*4# and select option three > Tuition.
  • Second, decide which distribution method you want to use, such as School Pay, Bridge International, or Magezi harvest.
  • In the third step, select the option to pay the associated fees.
  • In the next step, you will enter the student card issued by the school.
  • You will see the student’s name, class, and amount to be paid.
  • Simply type in the amount you wish to pay and follow the on-screen instructions.

When using the MyMTN mobile app

You can use MoMo app instead of USSD.

  • Start by downloading the MTN MoMo app.
  • Then choose the option to pay your bill and choose the option to pay your tuition.
  • Choose your favorite (primary – secondary, FlexiPay, School Pay)
  • Now enter the student ID number, school code and payment amount.

After making a payment, you will receive a confirmation SMS containing the details of the transaction, which you will take to the establishment for reconciliation.

MoKash to send and receive money

MoKash is a service that allows users to deposit, withdraw and borrow funds through their mobile phone. Customers can save money while earning interest or taking out short-term, low-interest loans.

The customer does not need to physically go to a bank.

Activation requires a user to dial *165*5# and enter their MTN Mobile Money PIN.

Beginning of the process

You must be an existing MTN customer and have an active MTN Mobile Money account to avail the service.

  • To use MoKash, you must enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN.

Cost of using Mokash on MTN MoMo service in Uganda

Exchanges between MoKash and Mobile Money are free. These transactions include owning a savings account, automatic savings, lending, repaying a loan, or checking account balance.

Depending on your KYC status, you can deposit as low as 50 UGX and as high as possible.

The range of loans available is between 3,000 UGX and 1,000,000 UGX, with a cost of 9%.

Banking and other financial services

Withdraw funds from an ATM

To withdraw money with MTN Mobile Money, visit any ATM owned by Crane Bank, Centenary Bank or Bankom.

Telephone cash withdrawal instructions

  • Choose the “Financial Services” option.
  • Third, choose the option called “Cash Out by ATM”.
  • Enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN in step 5.
  • Continue to use the TIN at a nearby Crane Back or Interswitch ATM to withdraw cash.

Please note that the TIN code has a validity period of 10 minutes.

Withdraw funds from an ATM

  • First, wait for the MTN Mobile Money interface to load or press any button on the screen to activate it.
  • Second, go to the MTN Mobile Money menu.
  • Enter withdrawal amount
  • Enter the TIN that was texted to your mobile device.
  • Select whether a receipt is required for withdrawal, then click “OK”.
  • The machine will dispense the cash and the receipt.
  • You will receive a confirmation SMS on your phone.

Withdraw money from your bank account

Your MTN Mobile Money account can receive deposits from your bank account.

To start:

  • Choose the “Financial Services” option.
  • The next step is to choose the “Withdraw Funds from Bank Account” option.
  • Continue by entering the amount (UShs)
  • Enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN
  • MTN will send you a confirmation message.

Transfer money to your bank

You can transfer money to your bank using the MoMo service.

To start:

  • Choose the “Financial Services” option.
  • Click on the option labeled “Bank Transfer”.
  • Enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN in step 5.
  • MTN will send you a confirmation message.

Access loan and savings offers

With MTN MoMo Uganda you can open a savings account or apply for a loan.

To start:

  • Choose the “Financial Services” option.
  • Choose “Savings and Loans”.
  • Then you will have to choose which operation you are going to perform.
  • Follow the remaining prompts.

Quick Cash Loans

You can get a quick loan using MoMo Uganda.

To start:

  • Choose the “Financial Services” option.
  • Click on the link labeled “Quick Cash Loan”.
  • You will be notified of the interest that will be assessed.
  • Choose the amount you want to borrow from those available (UShs)

Use MoMo Uganda to buy airtime

You can use funds from your Mobile Money account to top up your or someone else’s phone number with airtime.

To start:

  • Click the Buy Airtime button.
  • Enter the amount in Ugandan shillings
  • Verify by entering PIN MM
  • MTN will send you a confirmation message.

Making full use of MTN Mobile Money in Uganda

You can do anything with MTN Mobile Money, from transferring and receiving money to shopping. However, registration is required before you can use most of these functions.

Store steps

  • First, find a Mobile Money agent in your area.
  • Swap your current SIM card for a new one that supports Mobile Money.
  • Then the representative will guide you through the registration steps.
  • Next, complete the paper registration form and bring one of the following in the original form: a passport, driver’s license, corporate or government ID, tax certificate or LC, or ID card. voter identity.
  • You will get a new account with zero balance when you complete your registration.

Online registration

  • The first step is to download the registration form.
  • The second step is to fill out the form.
  • Send it to the nearest MTN service center along with a photocopy of your ID and photo ID.

Or

  • Scan the completed form and attach it via email to [email protected] along with a copy of your photo ID and passport.

Your registration will cost you nothing.
