A Central Point man who police say was involved in youth sports and ministry in Jackson County is being held in Josephine County Jail on a charge accusing him of having an online relationship inappropriate with a minor.

Andrew Joseph Cooper, 39, was arrested on Friday for first-degree online sexual bribery of a child, accusing him of “crimes involving a 15-year-old minor in the town of Grants Pass over the past two days.” according to a press advisory issued by Grants Pass Police.

As of Friday afternoon, Cooper was being held without bond and the Josephine County District Attorney‘s Office had yet to file a complaint in Josephine County Circuit Court.

Oregon court records showed no criminal history for Cooper.

According to Oregon law, the first-degree online child sexual bribery charge alleges that a suspect 18 or older uses online communication tools “to solicit a child to engage in sexual or sexually explicit behavior”, offers or agrees to physically meet with the child and “intentionally takes a substantial step towards a physical meeting with the child”.

The release provides few details about Cooper’s alleged crimes, but due to Cooper’s involvement “in sports and youth ministry” in Jackson County, it is possible that other victims may be there. .
