Why did you decide to come to the school board?

I have been a resident of the Richfield School District since 2007 and my daughter is in 5th grade at Richfield STEM. I have volunteered with the American Indian Parents Advisory Committee and STEM PTO. I have also volunteered with Moms Demand Action, educating the public on common sense gun laws and responsible gun ownership. Schools should be places of learning and children should be safe and feel safe. I am running for Richfield School Board because I am committed to improving the lives of students from all walks of life across the district. I want to be able to meet parents and guardians where they are, hear their concerns and actively participate in dialogue with them. Families who feel supported will continue to be engaged, which will translate into better outcomes for students.

What do you think is the number one problem facing Richfield Public Schools and how would you approach this problem if you were elected to the school board?

I think the number one issue right now is student representation. By properly representing students, families, teachers, and district leaders, we can contribute to student success, both short and long term. On top of that, I think we need to address and tackle the disparities that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted within our education system.

Do you have any ideas or specific areas of interest that you would like to target for improving education in Richfield? If so, describe those ideas and why you think the board would act on them.

Our children are the leaders of tomorrow and education is where we can all help create a safe, diverse and welcoming environment for all students. I believe it is imperative that teachers and staff at Richfield Schools reflect and represent the student body in order to create a positive and healthy learning environment for all. When students see their resemblance in their teachers and everything around them, their confidence in the classroom is enhanced and their results improved. In addition, it is essential to provide a program that reflects not only an accurate accounting of the history of our state and our original inhabitants, but an accurate accounting of the history of our nation.

Community participation: Richfield Boys Basketball Association (RBBA), Richfield Football League (RFL), Richfield Public School Activities Advisory Committee (RPS) and RPS Technology Advisory Committee

Why did you decide to come to the school board?

In 2012, my oldest son started kindergarten at Richfield STEM. I accompanied him to school every day. At the time, I wasn’t sure if he would go to Richfield High School, but I knew then that if I wasn’t part of the solution, I was part of the problem. Ten years later, I feel the same.

What do you think is the number one problem facing Richfield Public Schools and how would you approach this problem if you were elected to the school board?

First, I think it’s important to understand what a school board member can influence. They can have an impact on the policies and vision of the district and they oversee the principal of the school. I think the issues we face today are the same as 10 years ago – the overall safety and education of our children. To be clear, I don’t think these are issues that only affect Richfield. Schools across the country are confronted with children bringing guns to schools or students bullying other students. I believe it is apathy in our community. We need more students and parents to get involved. We need more people to stand up and say that it is not okay to bully. It is not acceptable to bring weapons to our schools. I have spoken to a number of parents about this. I expect them to help look after my children, just as I would look after theirs. You really need a village. If I am elected, expect to see me in the community. Come talk to me. Let’s talk about how we can make Richfield Public Schools a Destination District.

Do you have any ideas or specific areas of interest that you would like to target for improving education in Richfield? If so, describe those ideas and why you think the board would act on them.

For me, I keep coming back to the curriculum. I had the opportunity to attend the last meeting of the Richfield Public School Board. The discussion was about sex education. I am amazed at how much politics continues to infiltrate our schools. I want to make sure our kids learn to think critically. To ask questions. To try to better understand the world in which they live.

Community involvement: School board 2014-present; Richfield Baseball, Inc. Board of Directors 2008-2021; various other roles of sports volunteers for young people

Why did you decide to come to the school board?

I want to keep working to try to improve the neighborhood. I also want to help guide him through to the end of the COVID situation and back to “normal”. The role isn’t what you might call conventional “fun”, but it’s a role that I enjoy and care about.

What do you think is the number one problem facing Richfield Public Schools and how would you approach this problem if you were elected to the school board?

We have some ongoing and improving issues, but which remain incomplete. We need to clarify the list of current opportunities for all and increase these opportunities; improve everyone’s success; and, communicate more clearly in all aspects of our operations. If we align district funding with the district strategic plan, we will take important steps to achieve these goals.

Do you have any ideas or specific areas of interest that you would like to target for improving education in Richfield? If so, describe those ideas and why you think the board would act on them.

We need to better maintain and increase our retention of students in our district. If we can work on the items listed in the question above and communicate the success of these efforts clearly enough, then we should be able to do so, assuming people have been honest with us as to why they are. have opted for public schooling in neighboring countries. districts.
