The Hamline Midway History Corps had a display at the Coalition Annual Meeting, held at Griggs Recreation Center. Amongh the vistors to our display was Saint Paul mayor, Chris Coleman. (He, by the way, knew the answer to our historical question below. Do you?)
Memories of Griggs Recreation Center
"My 7 children in the 50s, 60s, and 70s spent the summers at Griggs -- we lived a block over on Englewood. We have Hula Hoop awards, softball, baseball, football/team momentos, and yo-yo awards. Winter was after-school ice skating. No 'traveling' teams -- they played teams from other and at other playgrounds. They said the 'lived at Griggs'."
-- Fern Diebel
"I remember when I went to the Griggs Recreation Center for a Coalition Annual Meeting and there were sundaes that you could make. There were peanuts, strawberry and chocolate toppings, and whipped cream. There were also streamers, and things to decorate the things you brought."
-- Audrey, age 8
